THAILAND, South East Asia
I took a road trip with a friend through Thailand. We rented a car and drove through the country in about three weeks. We started in Bangkok and drove north to Chiang Mai stopping in various villages along the way including Sukhothai Thani (the first Kingdom of Siam in the 13th and 14th centuries) and then drove south to the Phi Phi Islands before returning to Bangkok.
In the north we spent time in Mae Kham Pong where we zip lined over 2,000 feet in the rainforest all the way down the mountains of Chiang Mai with over 29 platforms, visited an elephant sanctuary (an ethical and sustainable rescue project) where members of the Karen hill-tribes and Chiang Mai locals provide good health and freedom to the elephants in need in that region. Before driving south, we spent time at the Buddhist temple Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. We finally made it to the south where we spent a few nights at Railay Beach where we saw wild monkeys in the forests before taking a long-tail boat to the Phi Phi Islands where we spent a week exploring Ko Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Don staying in small huts on the beach and drove around in motorbikes. We also made it to another small island, Ko Lanta. On our way back to Bankgok we spent time in Ban Krut. Despite getting the worst jellyfish sting of my life on this trip it was absolutely breathtaking in every way.
